Weapons Combat Systems

Historical Weapons Combat

Historical Weapons Combat deals with armed combat from a historical perspective. Historical Weapons Combat primarily teaches the use of historical European hand-to-hand combat weapons of the Middle Ages (including the Viking Age) and the Renaissance. These include arms such as swords, shields, axes, spears, daggers, polearms, etc. Historical Weapons Combat also takes into consideration the consequences of wearing historical clothing and protection, such as mail and plate armour.

The training is realistically oriented but is informed by historical combat manuals as well as the research undertaken by experts in the field in order to ensure historical authenticity.  To this end, Historical Weapons Combat also collaborates extensively with the Society for Combat Archaeology and regularly arranges study trips to museums, such as the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds.
